Tyler was in a car accident in the early morning hours of October 22, 2009. He was hospitalized at Froedtert with a traumatic brain injury, broken vertebrae (no spinal cord injury), broken ribs and other injuries. He has made significant progress since his hospitalization.
He was on a ventilator in ICU for 6 days. On the sixth day a trach was placed which the vent was connected to. He has since come off the vent completely and is breathing on his own.
He was non-responsive for a few days, but since has showed us some amazing things! He was squeezing hands and moving his feet. On Tuesday, Day 7, he gave a thumbs up sign. This showed purposeful movement. He then responded to commands like open and close your eyes and open and close your mouth. We are all very encouraged by this progress and can't wait to see more!
He does have some injury to his spine, but luckily no spinal cord injury, so he is able to move all limbs. He is in a back brace now to prevent further injury.
He has had a lot of support in the hospital from family and friends. We are grateful for the medical staff as they have provided him with the best care possible. We continue to pray and hope for the best. We all want to be with our Tyler again and the improvements he's made so far have been very encouraging, rewarding and thrilling!
This blog has been established for family and friends to leave comments, thoughts and prayers for Tyler, his family and his friends. We will continue to update this blog with his progress as we know he'll continually improve. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated by all of us and we look forward to reading them. I know they will provide Tyler's parents and family with great support.

Lots of thoughts and prayers headed your way from all your friends in Channing. cj
ReplyDeleteHi baby :)
ReplyDeleteI just want you to know that you have hundreds of people behind you, praying for your fast recovery. You have been doing so well and you are too strong and too stubborn to not come out of this on top. No matter what, remember everything...absolutely EVERYTHING happens for a reason. God needed to spend some alone time with you, to shape you and mold you and out of this, all of your family and friends will benefit from God's work as well. None of us will ever go through something we are not strong enough to handle. You are such an amazing person and I could not ask for more. No matter what, I will always be here for you, I will never leave your side. I love you, and I ALWAYS will. :)
xoxo

Tyler, I was thinking about Way Dam camping when you got the spider bite on your hand. And Dr. Sterwart (old lumberjack) fixed you up. Another time camping when the rain got the charcoal wet and we used bondo to get it going and had to flip burgers with a license plate because we had no spatula! I'll bet not many people have had bondo burgers. Talk about Yoopered up! Can't wait to go again. Hurry up. We need to see you laughing soon!

You are in my thoughts and prayers. It is absolutely heartbreaking to hear this news. Especially since I heard about it on your birthday. Since I've known you, you have been one of the strongest people I know. You can pull through anything, and I know you will pull through this. I'll always be here for you.
